Thanks for the many interesting opinions on this question which are being factored into our decision.
As recently as Jan 2013 the (BJP) Chief Miister of an Indian State had stated Ms. Sonia Gandhi continues to retain her Italian citizenship
The background to this is complex.
Please read an opinion of Mr. Gourab Banerji (now ASG) in context of new Italian Citizenship Act 1992.

Also, from this article,
"According to the 'Information on Citizenship', released by the Consulate General of Italy, an Italian citizen who acquired the citizenship of another country before August 15, 1992 has, in all likelihood, lost Italian citizenship and, unless he/she applies for re-acquisition, is to be considered by Italy as a foreigner. "

{{So are we dealing in probabilities or certainties??}}
..
Item 10 of Form II (before it was revised in 2000), which is used as an application for registration as a citizen of India under Section 5(1)(c) of the Citizenship Act, only required an undertaking from the applicant that she would renounce the citizenship of her country in the event of her application being sanctioned, while Item 9 of the form gave the applicant an option to state whether she had renounced or lost the citizenship of the other country.
..
..
In other words, the issue cannot be conveniently tried in an election petition on the basis of vague and indefinite pleas. A serious legal challenge to Sonia Gandhi's citizenship, it appears, is yet to emerge.

The VHP doubter who thinks we hoax - Here is one such example about the recent 2 Italian marines controversy. Now go and use google to locate it.
"accuse di comportamenti arroganti e colonialisti da parte dell'Italia e complicate dal fatto che Sonia Gandhi – presidente del partito al governo, che naviga in cattive acque – ha nazionalità italiana."
translated automatically as :
"accusations of arrogant behavior and colonialists from Italy and complicated by the fact that Sonia Gandhi - President of the ruling party, which sails in troubled waters - has Italian nationality."

Dear IAC members and friends,
It is with a heavy heart that I must report that although our IAC campaign cannot intervene for Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur as some members wanted, but some well wishers in Italy to whom our group messages go from IAC's international mailing lists have noticed her plight and sent IAC irrefutable and very recent press clippings from local Italian newspapers and sites mentioning that Sonia Gandhi continues to hold Italian nationality and which is why the Italian think they can get away with their piracy/murder.
If IAC members authorise me, I shall write to the concerned agencies in India, after first writing to Ms. Sonia Gandhi, calling for an explanation since Ms. Gandhi draws the salary and other perks of a Union Cabinet Minister.
Since this is a very serious issue, I would greatly appreciate it if the usual "VHP shouting brigade" kept quiet and allowed our usually silent members to write in on this. REPLY to this email indicating if you think IAC should intervene on Sonia's dual nationality and conflict of interest.
So as not to disclose the depth and spread of our membership/support base your emails will NOT be published to the list but shall remain only in the knowledge of the moderators who shall assess the mood of our membership because, strictly speaking this is not a corruption issue but a political one - and IAC is a non-political movement.
I hope this is clear.
