[IAC#RG] ONLY DIVINE INTERVENTION WILL PROTECT OUR DAMODAR MAUZO

Goa's very down to earth and noted Konkani writer Damodar Mauzo whom I have personally known for decades has been a prolific and very outspoken in all that he writes and speaks.

It is disturbing that there is reportedly a threat to the life of this very humble Soul. Damodar Mauzo would be better advised not to depend on the police security given to him by the BJP government as the saffron brigade is solely responsible for the growing intimidation and intolerance across the country ever since Narendra Modi came to power in May 2014.

We are battling through very dark and turbulent times with the so-called world's largest democracy now in deep peril. Unless these hooligans are tracked down, it would only further embolden them to stifle the voices of dissent.  Nobody should be allowed to suppress our right to express the thoughts we have.

While we rally behind our great Goan Damodar Mauzo, let us remain committed to this struggle for ensuring that our great country regains its democratic and secular fabric.

We should always be guided by those words of the great French intellectual Voltaire "I do not agree with you. But I shall give up my life for your right to say what you wish"

[IAC#RG] GOA AND STRAY DOGS

The increasing number of stray dogs is a matter of great concern. The stray dog menace across Goa is now beyond control. We have the stray dog population multiplying in every nook and corner of Goa. Every road in our cities and every corner of the villages are infested with stray dogs. The situation is very alarming and disturbing. Over the years crores have been spent also on the stray dog menace but the situation is just getting shoddier. The so called sterilisation programme is just not working. Sterilization alone can never be the only solution to this grave and alarming crisis of stray dogs.

Animal welfare organizations have been making tall claims about their successes in controlling the stray dog population. However, the general public remains unimpressed as the stray dog population grows relentlessly.

The anguish and distress faced by a victim of a dog bite is only to be experienced or seen. Not long ago a toddler at Ribandar lost both eyes after being attacked by a stray dog. Pet animals may be an asset to the society. It is also true that animals are required to be protected from unnecessary pain and suffering. However, when it comes to choosing between the sufferings of human beings due to a dog bite, obviously the weightage will have to be given to the suffering of humans.  There is a need and necessity to consider the seriousness of the stray dog menace in a very dispassionate manner not being influenced by any emotional issues.

#StopGMFood

Twitter Action after more than 20 brands of packaged food were found to have GM ingredients (from CSE press conference) and being sold freely even though this is ILLEGAL and even after repeated complaints made to different govt agencies that are responsible to regulate and act to check illegal entry of GM foods.

===================================================

Compulsory Hashtag (on each & every tweet): #StopGMFood

27th July 2018 (Friday)

3pm to 6pm

Intended Targets: @fssaiindia @MoHFW_INDIA @JPNadda @moefcc @drharshvardhan @sureshpprabhu @dgftindia @PMOIndia

(FSSAI, Health Minister, Environment Ministry and Environment Minister, Commerce Ministry's DGFT and Commerce Minister)

===================================================

27th July 3pm-6pm

Background

Illegal genetically modified food is being sold widely in India for multiple food products. Centre for Science and Environment (CSE),in a study published on 26th July 2018, reported that 21 food products out of a total 65 tested had illegal genetically modified ingredients. This means that one third of what they tested for turned out to be GM, and all of this is being illegally brought in and sold.

80% of the samples that tested positive were imported (16 of the 21 food products that were positive for GM presence). 46% of the imported food products that were tested were positive (35 of the 65 food products tested were imported foods, and 16 of those were positive for GM presence). Out of the 30 Indian products tested, 5 had GM presence (17%). 35% of the products even had their label mentioning GM on the label, when GM presence is illegal in India as per an FSSAI affidavit in the Supreme Court.

Here is the material put out by CSE on its latest research:

In India, starting from April 1st 2017, GEAC (the apex regulatory body for gene technologies in India called Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee) had abdicated its role of regulating GM foods as per Rule 11 of Environment Protection Act's 1989 Rules. They did so knowing fully well that there is no one else who will regulate either.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, which is supposed to crack down on anyone who is getting GM materials into India, without first getting approval of GEAC, or without also putting in a declaration that the consignment contains GM at the time of import, is keeping mum and passing on its responsibility by simply writing to other authorities.

http://indiagminfo.org/illegal-gm-foods-flooding-india-it-is-no-longer-a-case-of-simple-negligence-or-apathy-but-adoption-of-an-anti-citizen-policy-on-gm-foods/ is the press release put out by the Coalition for a GM-Free India, reacting to the CSE findings. This is a classic case of the Government of India actively adopting an anti-citizen policy when it comes to GM foods, and not just a matter of negligence or apathy any more. What else explains the failure of so many regulators and ministries together??

Re: [IAC#RG] Dear Arvind : In the matter of Swati Maliwal

Dear Munish

I need to clarify your post as follows:

AAP is not "our" party and IAC has no role whatsoever in the funds Arvind Kejriwal has been raising for his party.

As the (now suspended) NRI fund raising coordinator / supremo for AAP you surely had access to lists of all NRI donations and should have no hesitation in placing those lists in public domain.

On a larger issue, when a party like AAP did attempt to place their sources of finance in public domain we all know it was the RSS moles within that party who quickly got it scuttled so that larger parties like BJP and Congres can continue with their opaque funding and election bonds.  IMHO Arvind took a pragmatic decision to expel as many RSS moles from AAP as he safely could to reinforce AAP's status as the A-team of Congress and B-team of BJP.

On the issue of why I wrote my email to Arvind. It was to remind him that it is very well settled there can be no backdoor entry in public employment. Art.14 guaranees equal opportunity generally, Art.16 guarantees equal opportunity in public employment specifically, Art. 309 specifies how public posts are to be filled, and so on.

By this I mean is Ms. Maliwal your "aunt", your "sister", your "niece", your wife's sister's daughter or some other special relation that you can play around with public appointments and public money in this way ?

You know very well what kind of person Ms. Maliwal is, and we the voting public of Delhi are still waiting to hear from Ms. Maliwal's fair lips the names she promised us of the top politicians who she claimed were behind the GB Road brothels and were running them.

Honesty and integrity with efficiency scores more popularity than the caste or creed of a politician. On that score, Annadurai and Kamaraj stood on the top of the chain of political administrators of the then Madras state and i am sure they couldn't be replaced till date.

Dear Members,

with regards to Article on Kamaraj and Kakkan by Mr. Venkatarman. its a foundation state to State's industrialisation and education policy. I am not convinced with Mr. Rajinder saying Brahmins were driven out and etc. Look from holistic point, that rule by Congress's Kamaraj is still considered benchmark for good governance in most parameters. Periyar's movement was movement of pride for Dravidians which still hold sway amongst Tamilnadu native people's Psyche. the times were more revolutionary given the forward thinkers and rationalists spreading their thought. Its not correct to say Brahmins were driven away except that rationalism drove dravidian movement and that upstaged upper caste domination which was favoured by erstwhile British rulers. History cannot be re written or never spoken in many voices, its just the opinion and which side of the coin one sees. True Kamaraj shrewd manipulation of his wealthy caste resulted in many philanthropists pitching in to build the education network.

Coming to corruption one can say comfortably that after Annadurai's demise, new found power brokers including Karunanidhi and his coterie had a free run at money being generated, especially helping his kith and kin encroach on the entire length and breadth of state power politics. Yes development did not stop albeit at slow pace and new found formula of you scratch my back i shall return the favour. Education was the foundation stone for Tamilnadu people's development which until then was restricted to Upper castes during pre independence. next the early people who benefitted by Kamaraj's Largesse in education budget are present day engineers, doctors, legal luminaries, and various other professional experts. these folks all are happily retired or at fag end of career and hence their quality was never compromised. But allowing private players into education by both DMK and ADMK and quid pro support for partymen has sprouted so many engineering  and technical colleges across Tamilnadu at expense of quality. that is the thing to lament.

Dear Dr Venkatraman

From your post I feel you are saying that Congress rule was the best rule for Tamil Nadu but under these Dravidian parties the state sunk to new lows of corruption and alcoholism.

Incidentally my many dear friends from Tamil Nadu tell me, confidentially since they cannot say so publicly, that it was Kamraj/Periyar anti-Brahmin policy which made all the moral and educated persons to forcibly leave the State, leading to intellectual vacuum and steep decline in education values (filled by these mushrooming colleges/universities run by benamis of politicians) and huge rise in alcoholism there.

The plight of Tamil Nadu Brahmins is same (or worse) than Kashmiri Pandits, and we must ask if it is because of so-called democracy that numerically larger lumpen classes are taking over, ruining the nation and spreading their corruption.

REMEMBERING  KAMARAJ, FORMER CHIEF MINISTER OF TAMIL NADU

Cross section of people in Tamil Nadu celebrated the birth anniversary of Kamaraj on 15th July,2018 with dignity and feelings of gratitude for the services rendered by the great man to Tamil Nadu and the country and for his setting up a bench mark for quality governance in Tamil Nadu

Both Kamaraj and Kakkan were born in very poor families and gained respect and prominence in public life by exhibiting qualities of simplicity and sincere devotion to the cause of the country.

When Kamaraj was the Chief Minister and Kakkan was the minister in his cabinet, both of them discharged their duties and responsibilities with high level of personal honesty. The probity in public life which they exhibited throu oghout their life and as ministers was of highest class.

With the honesty of purpose and sustained interest in the welfare of the deprived section of the society, many schemes were implemented successfully and in time ,which was possible due to the absence of any vested interests and absence of corruption at the political level.

Today, those in the age group of sixty and above who have seen Kamaraj and Kakkan and who have experienced the benefits of their quality leadership and administration, feel extremely sad to see the conditions today in Tamil Nadu, where corruption has become the order of the day and more than one third of men population in Tamil Nadu have become liquor addicts.

Of course, even in the days of Kamaraj as Chief Minister, he was heavily criticized and abused by the leaders of the Dravidian parties for no valid reason. While C.N.Annadurai was dignified in criticizing him , it was not so in the case of other leaders of the Dravidian party . But, people in Tamil Nadu looked at the abuses with the contempt that they deserve.

Decline in the quality of governance and probity in public life started in Tamil Nadu after the passing away of C.N.Annadurai, who was the Chief Minister only for a very short period.

Ever since then, the decline in the standards of politicians and government machinery have been steady and though it has already reached disturbingly low level, many wonder whether it would further go down to catastrophic level.

Today, many politicians in Tamil Nadu at various levels, who have never taken up any job or involved themselves in any worthwhile profession to earn their livings, are now leading luxurious life style with huge wealth and property , though they have no known sources of income. Quite a number of them are chancellors and pro chancellors of universities with their sons and daughters waiting to succeed them. Learned professors are saluting them.

Today, in Tamil Nadu, politics has become such a lucrative profession that every member of the leader of the political party want to enter politics with tacit encouragement from the families. Now,new political parties are emerging at disturbingly frequent level, with politicians as founders ,who have nothing to claim as their own except the ill gotten money.

Under the circumstances, it is not surprising that people who have seen the days of Kamaraj and Kakkan feel extremely disturbed at the present state of affairs and they wonder whether Tamil Nadu can get back the glorious days of Kamaraj and Kakkan at all.

When Kamaraj and Kakkan passed away , they had no significant property or wealth and Kamaraj had only a few shirts and dhoties with currency of around Rs. 100 or so. One can readily see the difference these days if we look at today's politicians, who can go nowhere near Kamaraj and Kakkan for their standards of thoughts and actions.

Have we already lost Tamil Nadu as a place of glory and dignity that it was once known for.
