Re: [IAC#RG] IMPOSITION OF HINDI ON NON HINDI SPEAKING STATES

Hi All
In pakistan the leaders, if they need to win elections they have only one agenda. . . KASHMIR, for them poverty, development, economy, good governance etc never ever matters,  so in the same way for AMMA AND APPA ( Mr karunanithi) to win elections this is one MANTRA,  by default the central govt gives them the acceleration.

It is surprising that those in charge of policy making in NDA  government do not understand the intensity of the anger and frustration  amongst the people in the non Hindi states due to the subtle attempts of Modi government to gradually impose Hindi.
The genuine fear of the people in the non Hindi speaking states is that they would be reduced to second class citizens in the country  if Hindi would be imposed , as those speaking Hindi will get distinct advantage over the non Hindi speaking people at the national level.
Mr. Naredndra Modi does not seem to be aware of the  intense and popular anti Hindi agitation in non Hindi speaking states particularly in Tamil Nadu, when Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri was the Prime Minister.  Schools and colleges had to remain closed for around three months in Tamil Nadu due to anti Hindi  protest by the students. Finally, Mr. Shastri had to give an assurance that Hindi would not be made national language so long as non Hindi speaking people would not want it. The situation has not much changed as far as the imposition of Hindi is concerned.
Today, India has enough problems and there is no feelings of difference in the country on  language issue. Mr. Narendra Modi  should not create new issues by trying to impose Hindi.
Even today, many people in non Hindi speaking states , particularly in Tamil Nadu , feel like aliens as they do not understand Mr. Modi speaking Hindi everywhere without any translators. Re: [IAC#RG] Assignment in Law

Dear Mr. Purobi Ghosh,

I appreciate your offer to work pro bono for a good social cause. I have a cause which perhaps you may take up. As i do not have a LLB degree i am not able to follow up in the Courts.

Facts are:

There is equal opportunities and prevention  of disability Act, 1995 which mandates in section 33 to the  governments to give 3 % reservation to the differently  abled there is also a section in that Act that mandates the governments to ensure by giving incentives  that 5 % of the work force in private sector is comprised of persons with disabilities.

National policy for the Disabled also mentions the preference will be given to persons with disabilities in procurement of goods and services by the public sector .

Also the Treaty signed by the Govt. of India specifically states that   preference will be given to persons with disabilities in procurement of goods and services by the public sector .

But it is is increasing trend to outsource services by the public sector and government sector there by giving a miss to the mandatory reservation rules.

I have enough documentary evidence collected by way of RTIs that clearly say that the preference to the disabled in outsourced works is miserably absent (0%) and even the concerned ministries are deliberately ignoring it.

If you can take up this matter by way of PIL or in any other way

Regards

Ajay Chawla

Re: [IAC#RG] IMPOSITION OF HINDI ON NON HINDI SPEAKING STATES

The very fact so many responses coming  to this topic shows the inherent  feelings of those who comment. When a nation does not learn from history it is condemned to rrepeat it. How URDU was the unifying factor for Pakistan in 1947 but became a dividing factor during the Bangladesh war in 1971 as it was being imposed. People of India even in Hindi speaking areas just do not accept the Sankritised Hindi being imposed in the guise of patriotism and English domination. The  Brahmins of Tamilnadu who due to their knowledge of Sanskrit introduced "JHa, Sah, etc etc" in Tamil during 19th century as these sounds existed in Tamil but not the scripts and so make the language easy to write. But that does not mean Sanskrit is mother of all South Indian languages. It is not. Seperatism can be kindled by these silly vote gathering methods which may get some votes in some states ( a mirage as has shown in recent elections) but can be divisive. Politicians must  govern efficiently first and then do the divisive poltics later.

Re: [IAC#RG] IMPOSITION OF HINDI ON NON HINDI SPEAKING STATES

It is important that the local languages need to have a precedence in local area. Imagine a situation when a staunch Tamilian who is first an Indian lands up at Gaya in Bihar for the pind daan during Pitripaksha that is on now. If he does not know Hindi or English he will have numerous problems conducting himself.. This is exacly felt when one from Bihar lands up at Chennai central station to visit TN he is at a loss to conduct himself because even English is a Taboo. So an Indian is not at home in every part of the country and the right to seek job all over the country and to settle down anywhere in the country as enshrined as our fundamental rights is not enforced due to parochial tendency of all who are not in majority in the country. Strangely Bollywood films are watched and enjoyed all over the country alongwith the TV entertainment channels.
The assurance given by Mr Nehru & Mr LBS during the anti Hindi agitation in 64-65 are verbal and is respected as assurance but the constitution that is applicable to all and is written has given Hindi  a position as a link language though not as the national language..
In the name of minority rights even the constitution is being disrespected to which everyone taking oath  to follow, & thus committing a perjury but who cares. That is the reasons for so many regional parties to flourish who should not have been allowed to dab in National politics. And this is exactly the scenario today. The statement of unity in diversity is no go statement just for self glorification.

It is human psychology to resist anything that is imposed, while we go after, paying through our nose, to do things we like, like learning  fro e.g., Russian to work under a a Russian boss or marry a Russian lady. That is the subtle difference. Democracy is about the majority opinion, but minorities too need attention.

When he spoke in Hindi to the school children on Teacher's Day , lakhs of school students in non Hindi speaking states felt left out and wondered  as to whether the Prime Minister belong to  Hindi knowing people only.

RE: [IAC#RG] IMPOSITION OF HINDI ON NON HINDI SPEAKING STATES

20/9/14

Dear Mr. S. Roy,
I agree with you that Mr. Venkatarman should have not raised this issue knowing that it was discussed in the past and opinion was sharply divided. Same is evident now with various postings on this issue.

The only change between then and now is Modi factor. He has also clarified that Hindi will not be imposed. But if he himself feels comfortable speaking in Hindi what is wrong with it . His speaking to school children or to the foreign dignatories is also a non-issue.
If we look back on world history from the sixteenth century, you will see how the Europeans discovered North America and later India in search of spices, colonised North and South America, Asia and Pacific nations, spread their languages and culture
and way of life, with the result that today we have ceased to think of nothing beyond what Europeans want us to think and act.

Dear Mr Venkatraman

This is an emotive and divisive issue which has been discussed several
times before here. Nothing will be served by going over the same
ground. in any case Mr. Modi is not Mr Shastri.

Yes, Mr. Modi belongs to the Hindi knowing group (he knows some /
enough English). Get used to the new reality - "jaise Raja vaise
Praja' (what the King is so must be the people). If you want English
back, you know who to vote for next as PM (even if he is a sex-addict
junkie / flunky).

Re: [IAC#RG] IMPOSITION OF HINDI ON NON HINDI SPEAKING STATES

Hi,

Sarabjit made very valid points. Hyderabad & Bangalore got Mircosift/Oracle companies because of english-speaking local workforce and not because of native languages. Gandhinagar lagged behind mainly because of this issue which Gujarat is covering up since last 5-7 years.

Insist on mother-tongue but do not resist english. Do encourage all languages, without interstate rivalries. Learn at least 3 languages. If Hindi is known to larger population in India than other Indian languages, its easier to popularise Hindi as a common language.  As Sarabjit rightly pointed out, this is the tool to succeed over foreign countries.

On 19 September 2014 21:15, Sarbajit Roy <sroy.mb@gmail.com> wrote:
Dear Kumarji

As your comment summarises the feelings of a thought process held by
many Indians, it is necessary for me to respond to it. As Shanti
Bhushanji is one of the leading seniors in IAC we must carefully read
his advice on this subject, and my additions thereon.

1) Hindi is no doubt a very important language in "upper India" and
all Indians must be encouraged to learn it.

2) All India's languages, including English, must be respected and
equally regarded.

3) English is the language of information and learning today (like
Sanskrit was in the past).

4) All languages in India are "foreign" languages, including Hindi,
Urdu, Punjabi, Sanksrit etc. India is a country which has been
ravished so many times by foreigners that nobody can say with any
certainty which language is native and which is alien - it is a matter
of degree. Language is a tool to project the imperialist power of the
moment.

Now expanding from what Shanti Bhushan ji has written.

A) The Western foreigners do not want Indians to learn English. Their
secrets and knowledge and history are almost now maintained in
English. Today's world is an information based world, these bloody
westerners want that most Indians are ridiculed  as speaking English
in a sing-song Peter Seller accent. They don't want it known that
India is the 2nd largest English speaking country in the World, like
the Arabs dont want it known that India has the 4th largest number of
Muslims in the world. These bastards will do everything to divide us
so we don't snatch their knowledge, jobs and economic power, and
unfortunately we get so easily divided.

B) What is the methods the Westerners use to corrupt our people -
Money, Sex and culture change !!!. They have no shortage of money to
throw at us, their women use their bodies like loose change and our
entire Indian culture (or rather lack of culture) is being replaced by
loose Western morals and easy ways. These buggers are re-writing our
nation's history on Wikipedia and Google is stealing our ancient
intellectual knowledge - what the f*** are we doing about it ?

For India to rise over foreigners-
a) Our people must be pure, free of sin and knowledgeable / wise to their wiles
b) We must beat them at their own game by mastering English.
c) We must impose our culture on them before the Arabs or Chinese do.
d) Their consumer culture must be firmly rejected.

Most importantly,

WE MUST STOP FIGHTING AMONGST OURSELVES - and focus on the enemies.
