I agree with Mr. Seshadri that there should be less cash in the system. When I read about people carrying lakhs on a scooter or car and
getting mugged I wonder where all this cash comes from? Why dont they transfer money through the banks? Electronic money
transfers through netbanking is also a good option but not everyone has net access -- or even regular electricity.
As for cheques there are lakhs of cheque bounce cases in the courts. We have to simplify and speed up legal procedures for
penalising cheque bouncing and for retrieving the money. Only then will people use cheques rather than cash.
