It is a noble ideal to have a group function without a "highcommand" or "list owner" or any of their synonyms. Any freewheeling group has a natural tendency to go out of control and and start moving randomly and without direction sooner than later. Hence, it is necessary for any group trying to achieve anything, to have a leader, by whatever name called, who lays down the general direction and policies for the group. The laid down policies and direction can always be changed following a predetermined procedure. This occupier of the leadership position, by whatever name called, can be decided following any of the democratic methodologies - election, nomination by members, etc - for a predetermined period. Rotation methodologies can be established to avoid monopolistic permanent or semipermanent control over activities. A rudimentary system can be proposed and refined over a period
As David Ogilvy put it "Search all the parks in all your cities. You'll find no statues of committees". It takes an individual to achieve something - anything, Not as a lone individual, but aided by a group
