Recently there have been a spate of cases or rape against women, girls as low as 5 years, and the perpetrators ranging from own father, uncles, brothers and some even abetting such acts for monetary gains.
Several such cases reported of late from Kerala esp. are shocking of the father and brothers indulging in such heinous and horrendous acts for years without the mother knowing it as the girl has been under threat of her life. When one case is reported perhaps nine others go unreported according to assumed statistics.
One of the most probable cause is alcoholism that has prompted these men from committing these crimes when inebriated and out of their senses, in most cases. Even in the most recent case of rape in the running bus of a physiotherapist student, and the violence involved with the girl struggling to live with internal injuries to genitals and intestines, suspected septicaemia due to rupture and possible peritonitis, the five perpetrators had a bout of drinking alcohol before venturing out on a bus hy themselves. I doubt whether they would have resortd to this violence had they been in normal senses.
The TV shots of their residences and location reveals their coming from the lowest strata of Society.
CASTRATION SHOULD BE A DETERRANT FOR RAPISTS AND THEY SHOULD BE PLACED ON COMMUNITY SERVICE LIKE SWEEPING THE ROADS OR SOLID WASTE COLLECTION WITH A JACKET OVERWEAR MARKED PROMINENTLY "I AM A RAPIST" ON THE BACK"
Death penalty would be an instant death wand would not be carried out by the Govt. for years, and Govt. spending Crores for the comfortable life in the prison for them meanwhile. Castration, either by chemical injections or by literal excision of the organs would be an ideal method to be adopted to deter others from getting into such serious threats to the girls in Society.
While everyone spoke about the rape cases in Delhi (topping the crime) followed by Bombay, Bangalore and Chennai in that order have not mentioned how Gujarat has dealt with this serious problem on such cases rarely reported or occuring? One of the main reasons is total prohibition in the State though alcohol is available through bootleggers.
One noteworthy incident that occured in Ahmedabad is- when a man tried to grab a girl walking on the road after dark, the girl who had learnt karate, retorted, hit him back, and he had to be helped back to be pput in a vehicle to be sent away!! Perhaps girls should carry pepper-spray mixed with a dye that would disable the attacker and the dye would be easily identifiable when caught.
Self defence is the best option and social awareness of onlookers to join the victim rather than mere spectators as in case of Mumbai incidents when the attempts to save the girl led to his death by stabbing by criminals.

Castration is too good for them.
In British times they used to be sent to Kaala Paani where the other prisoners knew how to take care of such sex criminals (lowest grade of prisoner) and paid them back in the same coin.
Which is why IPC is also weak on crimes like this.
So we have a disjunct in the law, weak IPC and no Kaala Paani, which is why crime escalates.
The French had evolved a simple and parallel solution to such problems. The Foreign Legion. It should be made mandatory that such criminals are drafted into a special force to be used exclusively in Siachen or Dantewada etc.
