The police forces/IPS have been given canteen facilities. beside that they also take items including daru from fauji canteens directly or indirectly, at least in Delhi one can see. i think mr. thakur is trying to compare police with military. any thing military get in india including pay, allowances, uniform, rank badges etc etc, the police wants and gets it sitting in cool homes/offices through their politician bosses /friends. there seems to be some sort of conspiracy to weaken the Indian fauj by various means. rgds. beniwal

The Principle of having subsidized Canteen Stores in Cantonments and other Defence agglomerations was introduced with a view to cater to the families their requirements as most of the time the male members are deployed far away on duties and might not return to the quarters for months together. The Cantonments are usually located isolated from Civilian mrkets.
When the Soldiers are risking their lives to save the Country and its people, it is inappropriate to question their requirements provided to families free of most taxes.
Reg. alcohol, most of the forces at the borders are accustomed to drink alcohol to keep awake and protect the borders- lest the sleeping soldiers would be killed point blank range as it happened recently.
These Soldiers habituated to a drink or two before food are provided tax-free alcohols.

Are services getting subsidized canteen facilities , including liquor?
Your contention is incorrect. Benefits the governments giving are exemption from certain taxes.
At your levels you should be concerned as to why there are serious shortages in the forces. Surely some concessions in the taxes are not good enough to attract deserving candidates.
