I disagree that it is a violent group that is the trouble here. Kamal Hassan has fallen out with Jayalalitha ever since he praised Chidu for something (I forget what). Kerala has more Muslims and the film showed there without problem. Muslims are hardly any size worth pandering in Tamil Nadu at the risk of alienating mainstream. Small population. There are also issues with distributors in various states including Tamil Nadu who had refused to distribute the film if Kamal Hassan also made a simultaneous DTH release.

I had initially thought it was Muslim pressure groups, but there have been no particular comments or major obstruction or it would have made news as usual.

Just saying.
