Re: [IAC#RG] THE STATE’S RECOVERY FROM COVID-19 IS GOING TO BE VERY CUMBERSOME

To: Advocate Aires Rodrigues

From information available online one gets the impression that you are a Portugese citizen who believes that Goa is still a Portugese colony. This explains the string of articles exclusively about Goa (a very tiny state) flowing from your pen published by the forum

Goa's State exchequer has been in a financial upheaval for long. Now with COVID-19 pandemic we are in yet a bigger hole. What was bad is becoming worse possibly the worst economic crisis ever. The government would need to take swift and stringent measures towards the State's economic recovery. Disbanding the current jumbo cabinet and having only three Ministers, besides doing away with all those needless corporations that have been created over the years may be the way forward.

We have been witness to how Goa's first Chief Minister Dayanand Bandodkar and his successor Shashikala Kakodkar too had so ably managed Goa besides Daman & Diu with just three Ministers. And in those days there were no Government Corporations to be doled out to pacify disgruntled MLAs and party politicians. This is a time to deliver and implement big effective ideas by a few people for the benefit of the many. Do more with less!

The cash strapped Goa Government which is borrowing galore to tide up its expenditure, needs to now ensure that every paisa from the State exchequer is very judiciously spent. It is particularly appalling when expenses are recklessly incurred on non-priority areas. It is an irony that the State cries over lack of funds while at the same time we see very glaring unjustified expenditure. For rationalization in government spending, strong and sincere austerity measures need to be taken with criminal waste of public funds on superfluous expenditure strictly prohibited.Fiscal accountability and responsibility has to be an ongoing sustained process. It is now the bounden duty and responsibility of the authorities to work towards restoring Goa back on the road to economic prosperity.

COVID-19 obliges everyone to be cautious and responsible. Government and business must work together to do anything and everything in their power to help everyone especially those who are suffering. Any money spent must be accounted for and costed besides being spent to deliver real sustainable benefits for the many and not just the few. People expect their money to be invested prudently and honestly with their immediate needs as a top priority.
