This corroborates what I said about government Covid containment tactics: spend as little as possible in rural areas, exploit those who are already exploited. But collect vast sums of money from abroad in the name of India's millions at risk from the virus. These ASHAs must be the lowest paid health workers in the world exposing themselves without proper safety gear. to households that may be harbouring infected people. Rs 30/day doesn't even cover the legwork required to tour village households. But if she refuses she may lose her job. ASHAs' main income normally comes from assisting institutional deliveries for pregnant mothers in villages.
