Re: [IAC#RG] Congress tables RTI Amendment Bill 2013 in Lok Sabha

Seshadri saheb,

I know I am speaking totally out of turn. For that one must be excused.
The democracy that we enjoy or "suffer" at given time periods, in our brief history as of 1947, is riven with self-interest. More so where the score of political parties are concerned.

NONE of them would like to perform or act in a transparent way. Especially when trying to provide good and effective governance, they would not like to provide much data or information.

RTI possibly came to us as a Deepawali gift of sorts but the "powers that be" could not digest its impact or the nervousness it caused them.
That applies perhaps to ALL of them.

Dear   Sarbajit,

Pl. explain how we will be able to get all info we need about our great innumerable political parties  after this bill is passed. . I am clue less. You are an expert. . If they are out of the ambit of RTI, how can you get any info you want?  We will all be grateful for your expert presentation.

I  was amused when I was watching the  great debate on the Jammu problem. At least ten political parties wasted the precious parliament time saying exactly the same thing . What. A very credible enquiry should be made !!!! In any other democracy  two guys will speak . One from the ruling party and the other from the opposition . Here we are in big trouble. !! Sarbjit should clearly explain his statement  and tell us why the all politicos are ganging up together to get out of RTI , just the way they get together to increase their salaries, Perks, and keeping criminals with them in the P for making laws !!!!  Seshdari

Dear Brig. Seshadri

Can you please explain to me in simple (non-emotional/apolitical) language WHY this citizen friendly RTI Amendment Bill which abundantly clarifies that Political Parties are NOT public authorities (but are private bodies) as presently defined in RTI Act 2005 should be resisted ?

I view this Bill as a tremendous advancement towards the citizens securing information about political parties under the Right to Information.

I have chosen my words very carefully, and as an expert in RTI and RTI Act.

PS: As a retired staff officer I am sure you would still retain some of that officer training which taught you to filter out the signal from the noise on this issue (which is being generated by a small section of anti-national NGO persons closely associated with the Congress Party who claim to be 'thekedars' of RTI).
