Gujarat Attracted Just 5% of FDI Since 2000

 

Half Pants may find it difficult to believe in this latest report of DIPP Gujarat attracted just 5% of the FDI in India ($7.3b) out of $133b for India since April2000. This is nowhere close to $950b MOUs signed by Narendra Modi.

Last line as reproduced here is important – per capita expenditure of Gujarat is at par with India average. >> 17.1 Average Monthly Per Capita expenditure Gujarat Rural Rs. 875 India Rs. 772, Gujarat Urban Rs.1471, India Rs.1472.

 

Gujarat has excellent roads and highways because it has very high percent of National Highways connecting important ports etc. But when it comes to Irrigation Canals Gujarat couldn't commission Narmada Canal system in 15 years since BJP rule or 24 years since projected was started.

 

Partly Gujarat is helped by fortune – Gems & Jewelry, Petroleum Refining, Cotton are big business in Gujarat and skyrocketing prices of these commodities contributed greatly to Gujarat GDP, and partly Fudging of records by Modi.

 

In the following growth of Electricity consumption in 2009-10 was just over 2% and 56973MU for 60 million population so per capita consumption is 934 units. But Modi claims 1491 units. Even generation of 69883MU for 60 million population is 1164 units no way even close to 1491 per capita claims of Modi.

 

2.59 The total consumption of electricity during the year 2009-10 was 56973 Million Units as against 55610 Million Units in the previous year i.e. 2008-09 (including Torrent Power Ltd.). The highest consumption was reported 21517 Million Units (37.77%) by industrial use, followed by 13003 Million Units (22.82%) by agricultural use, 8329 Million Units (14.62%) by domestic use, 8123 Million Units (14.26%) by other uses and 3908 Million Units (6.86%) by commercial use.

 

2.60 The per capita consumption of electricity during the year 2009-10 was reported to 1491 units as against 1446 units of the previous year 2008-09.

 

In the following Gujarat State has 37% more installed capacity than Private Sector yet both sectors generate same amount of power and CAG observed Gujarat backed down 30 Billion Units.

 

5.2 The total installed capacity of the State as on March-2010 was 11758 MW (comprising of 5216 MW by Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (GSECL), 3818 MW by Private Sector and 2724 MW by Central Sector Share). >>

 

5.3 The total Generation of Electricity in the State including GSECL (28507 Million Units), Private sector (28042 Million Units) and Central sector share (13334 Million Units) was 69883 Million Units in the year 2009-10 as against 68962 Million Units generated in the previous year i.e. 2008-09.
