RE: [IAC#RG] POST PATHANKHOT ITS TIME FOR MANOHAR PARRIKAR TO HANGHIS BOOTS

Friends

While we may cast all the blame on Modi what are those who are carrying high military credentials and are either in government and law makers doing to educate and apply their pressure for correction ?

As for Pathankot  event may be small in military sense a cross border raid but a demonstrative sting.  Ongoing staccato of incursions is a standard pattern of standoff when there is lull in hot war. Fits in Pak strategy to keep Kashmir alive on world stage,   not a surprise to any realist. But here a difference. The raid was mounted not in J&K but on Punjab territory which is becoming porous by the day and  by a small team against a value target.  Coming close in wake of PMs Pak visit,  a monumental psychological blow to our cheered big power image. A clear message delivered by mere handful of determined mujaheddin in a fully considered and deliberate act not merely the usual foray. To embarrass and blow steam out of empty and knee jerk bragging a fad with us and more with our cantankerous political class. A  slap in face of self styled Hinduatva 'nationalists' with grandeur dreams of recasting the partition through billboards and slogans with nothing but moral bankruptcy to back it up. A clear reminder to our presumptuous leaders  that behind any  bonhomie  with  civilian regimes  it will always be Pak military which calls the shots what  Americans too don't hide. Recall pre Kargil parleys with same Pak PM, the breakdown of Agra summit our constant reneging from declared position. Had Mr Modi also called on Gen Sherrif matters may perhaps have been stunningly different! Pak Army sees itself in a 'Kshattriya' role the fighter and ruler embodied in the same institution best keepers of its people's interest as they inculcate right at formative stages of leadership grooming. Now that the PM has challenged Nawaz Sherrif to act one wonders how this will be followed up by latter only what will restore our dented standing. For it is inconceivable that this incursion could ever have been possible without active support of ISI. What else did conspire between Doval and Gen Janjua in Bangkok to have taken the PM for a 'surprise' visit other than US dictate and with what guarantees?   That be, this also bares abject complacency indeed culpability of own state of affairs, which can render us so vulnerable on our own territory repeatedly  , best summed up as being in shambles. At constant fire fighting to retrieve and restore status quo an inbred psyche that afflicts 'Hindu' mind set  i.e. to exist with an eye on profit from any enterprise and draw advantage of the moment. The adversary seven times smaller ever taut as spring ready to bounce back and  break status quo .This incident exposes physical and moral pitiable state of our police,  total unpreparedness of a forward air force base which was penetrated  , a complete breakdown of intelligence machinery  if at all it existed , the  hapless state of training and poor combat instincts even in an elite setup as NSG. Toll of own lives too high and quite unnecessary. Where was the Army when our elite 1 Para was close by at Nahan. For this was an attack on sensitive military asset on own territory. It is obvious that there is a major mix up of roles in our defence and military hierarchy .That the Army has a role other than laying carpets for promoting yoga as a stamp of recognition. This state of affairs can only be comforting to our adversaries making a laughing stock of us among nations. Just six have trounced a budding military power, lucky they were not twelve. As usual we will now be about flurrying to fake reports, spew lies and justifications. No heads will roll in true spirit of our nuances if heads did not roll for Kargil what was a disastrous military betrayal by generals for which we still owe retribution to the soldier and the nation.  As after every debacle there will be brain storming by talking shop heroes and think tanks but few would tread to expose the decay in higher military leadership which has abdicated from its institutional role in pursuit of self serving goals morally shattered and at core of  our fall from grace and sliding military fortunes. Straightforward military professionalism way laid by soft culture of sycophancy and affliction with fads and cliques had been making inroads in absence of promoting ideals a faulty formative grooming .But new spurt in abandoning to subservience of political band wagons smashing  military virtues has thrown the institutions in disarray why it is so vulnerable to manipulation and subjugation for benefit of few to market themselves in society that had no military culture. This has over period culled the military of its fighting spirit, weeded out fighting material turned the profession of arms into a disincentive for right material,   plying others agenda pushing up mediocrity with which we are flush. Indicative of a deep corrosion of values which marks our political and national character and defines our sense of 'achievement'. By instinct we therefore prefer to be more of a ceremonial State busy selling and buying for others like the military toys that we will display on Republic Day claiming to gullible as our might right under eyes of those who provide these. Not a nation state. A national reverse has no political markings all bear the fruits collectively shame or glory. Politics must not therefore bring soldier to streets and this is what his leaders must ensure which is only when they hold the integrity of the institution inviolable which our leaders have still to learn.

Did you know Gujarat has a 'Defence University'? I am sure you do not. So google it and you will find it is only meant for policemen. That is the thinking about Defence - same as Nehru !

Dear  MrAires Rodrigues, I fully agree with the goof up by the defence Minister in handling Pathankot episode, In addition has has been sidelined in case of agitating servicemen over their legitimate demand of One rank one Pension. (OROP)These agitating soldiers had high hopes in their Defence Minister but he has proved his incompetence by spelling out truncated Notification on 7 November. to prove his competence he made Chiefs of three wings of Armed Forces stand like stooges while releasing the(OROP) notification. It is most shameful for the nation that those Soldiers who cage there yesterday for our today had been agitating over 200 days at Janter Manter. I feel time is not away when Mr Parriker may be told by Mr Modi to pack up his boots Regards

MP is only a decoration piece for Modi. There are plenty of tanks and APC s around Pathankot. The local Brigade Commander should have send an APC or tank to blast the hell out of the hideout of the   terrorists and the matter would have gloriously ended in 5 minitues! We need decisiive leadership and bold policy framework with plenty of freedom for commaander on the spot to take instant action- major mathews (retd)

Dear Mr Rodrigues,

I agree with your views on Mr Parikkar mostly except the penultimate para where you have mentioned about his soiled boots. Sorry, he doesn't have boots, only chappals. He even reviews parades in his chappals. A disgrace to the always well turned out members of any defence outfit. It is high time Mr Modi eases him out.

The sordid happenings at Pathankhot over the last few days should be an eye opener.  India desperately needs a full time, dedicated and competent Defence Minister. The current incumbent who also merrily doubles up as the de- facto Chief Minister of Goa over the weekends has failed to ably lead the defence forces. His priority has been to keep himself embroiled in Goa's petty municipal and panchayat politics. Manohar Parrikar relishes in inaugurating roads, culverts, all and sundry while lowering the esteem and honor the very high position of Defence Minister entails.

Not long ago while Narendra Modi was inking the Rafale fighter jet deal in France his Defence Minister was inaugurating a mobile fish stall in Goa.  When Modi went to Russia to sign the chopper deal, Manohar Parrikar was nowhere in sight. Probably, Modi chose to leave his Defence minister behind, lest he commits a gaffe.

After his disastrous three year tenure as Chief Minister of Goa, the awfully ego puffed Manohar Parrikar has ended up over the last year a catastrophe as Defence Minister of India. He has become a laughing stock and object of ridicule. It is high time Narendra Modi sees the writing on the wall and realises that India frantically needs a sincere, honest, competent and level headed Defence Minister.

The complete incorrect picture about Pathankhot that was sought to be given, that all operations were over, within a couple of hours, with some BJP MPs, going public in praising the Government, only to be exposed as falsehoods. The immature handling of the entire operation and the selective press leaks, still could not heal the damage done by the incompetent Defence Minister. For Manohar Parrikar, now to come out and claim that there were "some gaps" is nothing but confirming that the gap is caused due to his absence from Delhi on account of his regular hobnobbing in Goa.

Mere fact that Manohar Parrikar supported Narendra Modi for his anointing as Leader and future PM, ought not to have allowed Modi to lose his balance with this vital appointment. The position as Defence Minister is surely, not a Chairmanship of a Corporation. Nor is it for someone who seeks to play the role of a cowboy.

Manohar Parrikar gave us all those tall sermons on Zero tolerance to Corruption, but the rampant corruption which has ebbed to the peak is there for all to see. It is time for him to gracefully pack off and hang up his very soiled boots.
