Re: [IAC#RG] [HRArmy] PRESS RELEASE. Death of Delhi's innocent gangrape victim.

I agree with the points raised by Gen Malik but I feel we are only likely to achieve partial success. My fear is that there is a total breakdown of governance in the country, which requires a total shakeup to the very bones of our system of administration. Take the present case. The bus had been picking up passengers  even when it was not authorised to do so for a number of years, despite the DTC and police having reported the incidents to the Delhi govt transport dept. Also will the police start working only when the police reforms are implemented? Till their implementation will it continue to be hostile to aggrieved citizens who come to the police station?  Will the transport dept continue to permit illegalities as long as the culprit continues to fill the pockets of the staff?
The trouble is that there is no accountability and punitive action depends on "who you know". Witness the recent incidents of political leaders gunning down a police inspector or beating up another in Punjab or the cases of police abetment in the cases of two girls committing suicide during the recent months. Do you think things will change if the police reforms are brought into force?
The other day a newspaper published the names of 15 civil servants whose cases are awaiting govt approval for prosecution or for enforcing the penalties imposed on them since 2007. Despite existing laws which additional law do we need to prosecute them?
As long as political leaders keep getting away with looting public money because of voting requirements in the parliament, things are not going to change. Children follow the actions of their parents and citizens follow their leaders! We need a leader who sets an example and shows leadership qualities. A very tall order. Till that happens we will continue to suffer.

Sisters and brothers,

It is a fact that majority of rape cases have not been  reported to the police because they have to undergo lot of mental agony in the police station and as well as  in  the court room in front of many men.  But I have not come across   any suggestion to overcome this lacuna. Atrocities against women should be handled  only by women( police,  lawyers and judges should all be women in the Fast Track courts.). They  should be given special training to handle these cases. Cross -examination of the victim in the  open court room should be avoided to the extent  possible, if it is  a medically proven case, and Video Conference technology may be used. My request is that women should come forward in large numbers to take up these professions so that later on  the Govt. will not come out with an excuse that they are not getting  sufficient women to handle the cases.

Very disturbing news! Feel very sad for her and her parents. Braveheart! RIP.

Public anger should be directed to Electoral, Judicial and Police reforms.
  • All MPs and MLAs charged for any crime should be thrown out of Parliament/Assemblies. Political parties should be forbidden to give membership to such people.
  • Police Reforms as approved by the Supreme Court in 2006 should be implemented in letter and spirit by all states.
  • Fast courts to deal with crimes against women.
  • Respect for women in  society should be part of social studies in all schools. No religion or Khap Panchayat should be allowed to pass dictats that violate this spirit.

IAC does not indulge in politics.

This incident has shocked and roused the nation. IAC will pursue it in our own ways once the TV cameras and NGOs have moved onto other issues, and long after all the candles being lit today have flickered out.
