There is a great deal of misinformation about Vande Mataram, so I would not like to add to it in this thread.

However, it is clear to anybody who reads AnandMath, that Vande Mataram is a reference to Goddess Shakti (Durga/Kali) (Part One Chapter XI) and 'Hail Mother' an invocation to take up arms to kill Muslims "root and branch" because they are enemies of God (Part 2 Chapter IV) so that English rule can result (Part Four Chapter VIII).
