I fully agree with you. Further the informal economy in India is only 13% as against 30% in China.
The informal economy is termed as ' black economy' and is attacked in the process. The people planning it are well paid through cheque by GOI. They do not understand the relevance and importance of this informal economy. As a typical bureaucratic mindset, they just want everything under their control. Aadhar card scheme is also result of such mindset.
The west was perplexed in 2008 when they found that India was immune to economic depression the world was going through. .
This resilience in our economy was due to vast presence of informal economy.
The West badly wanted India to formalize entire economy as it would, then, come under international control.
I think those who oppose demonetization have an axe to grind. Demonetization has hit those with black money the hardest, and also terrorists and separatists. There is no stone throwing in Srinagar after demonetization. Just shows- they were throwing stones for money, not because they thought they were oppressed. Otherwise they would still have been throwing stones. And sadly, they were bring paid mostly in counterfeits. To find reasons to support black economy one needs extremely convoluted reasoning, which is well beyond me.Jai HindAnand S Gangoli

Renowned economist Prabhat Patnaik, in his latest article on #demonetisation, explains why "demonetization, far from being an attack on the “black economy”, would in effect turn out to be an attack on the vulnerable “informal” segment of the “white economy.""
