Goa's beleaguered Chief Information Commissioner Prashant Prabhu Tendolkar has finally stopped using the Red beacon after written directives were issued by the Transport department asking him to stop using the Red beacon and remove it from his Official vehicle.

Officials of the Transport Department had last month booked and issued a challan to Prashant Tendolkar for illegally using a red beacon on his official vehicle GA-07-G-5555.

In reply to the show cause notice issued, the CIC Prashant Tendolkar tried to justify his using the red beacon by claiming that he was equivalent in rank with a Supreme Court Judge.

Declining to accept that contention, the Transport department has drawn his attention that the Chief Information Commissioner does not figure in the list of eligible dignitaries notified by the Government to use the Red beacon.

The Transport department swung into action following a complaint filed against Prashant Tendolkar for illegally and blatantly using a red beacon on his official vehicle in clear defiance of law and amounting to a gross contempt of the Supreme Court order.

In accordance with the Supreme Court order the Goa Government by a notification issued on 3rd July 2014 notified the list of persons entitled to use the red beacon on their official vehicle. As per that notification only allowed to use the red beacon are the Governor, Chief Minister and Ministers, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Chief Justice and Judges of the High Court, Leader of Opposition, Advocate General and the Chief Secretary.

As the Chief Information Commissioner has now stopped using the Red Beacon after the Transport department directives, the Lal Batti yatra scheduled to be held on 14th March in Panaji to protest against the illegal use of the red beacon by Prashant Tendolkar stands cancelled.
