There is nothing like judicial independence. It is only a myth created for the consumption of the gullible public. One judge who was appointed as Lokayuktha in Gujarat and refused to take up the job said it explicitly: when I am being appointed against the will of the state govt it will not be possible for me to work freely. There will be resource crunch and all inconveniences will be created for the performance of the duties'. And that is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!
That is why you find that when the judiciary gives a judgement in favor of ordinary citizens and the government fails to implement it no action is taken against the defaulters whereas ordinary citizens are subject to immense pressure not to criticize judges under threat of contempt of court!
