Re: [IAC#RG] Insult to the nation

Dear Azhar

I must congratulate you for speaking up and putting the matter in its correct perspective. We have too many people on this list who simply shoot off their superficial opinions and totally lack the intellectual or practical basis to appreciate the actual issues involved.

Firstly : Dr. Burq is no ordinary legislator. He is the Convenor of the Babri Masjid Action Committee. He has been repeatedly returned to Lok Sabha from Moradabad (first from SP and then from BSP) where he enjoys the love of voters. At 82 years of age he retains his sense of history and is eminently qualified to speak on this song and why he opposes it.

Secondly: Dr. Burq is very well known (see the Lok Sabha records) for rushing to the well and walking out. I still remember seeing him on TV in 1998 when he cornered L.K.Advani (then the Home Minister) on the VHP's secret agenda to build Ram Mandir (32 pillars had then been cast and photographed) which was exposed in "The Week" magazine and the entire opposition followed him out. I also remember Mr. Rajesh Pilot stating that day that on 3-Dec-1992 he had informed the Lok Sabha that the Mosque would be demolished and UP Govt should take action - but that Atal and Advani sat with their ears, eyes and mouths shut (Pilot was killed in suspicious circumstances shortly thereafter).

Thirdly : 99.99% of those  who speak glowingly of 'Vande Mataram' the song have never read 'Anandamath' the book. Since I know this book very well I would encourage people to read the book and see if they still feel so strongly about the song. I have an English translation somewhere which I will upload so our members can read it.

Fourthly : My great grand aunt wrote the music for Vande Mataram which was first performed publicly at the Congress Meeting in Calcutta at 1896. My family is the family which first started Durga Puja in India in the 1600s and continues it to this day. And yet despite this lineage, I am one of those persons (Hindustani patriots) who refuses to sing the Vande Mataram publicly. It has become a thoroughly anti-Indian song now. In any event it was only made the national song by that boot licker Nehru as a compromise to get the Jana-Gana-Mana made the national anthem. Songs such as Vande Mataram and Jana-Gana-Mana are meant for only a limited circle of people (initiates) to appreciate. They (like the Gayatri mantra) should not be allowed into public domain as their real meaning gets eroded and corrupted.

Fifthly: Unfortunately the song which should have been India's national anthem could not be considered because its author had become an idealogue for Pakistan. I am referring to "Saare Jahan Se Achcha Hindostan Hamara" which stands far above both these songs and which goes to show that the creation  is more important  that the Creator.

Most important is the fact that Muslims can never worship the land. We worship only Allah. We love our country. But militant nationalism is against Islam.

The song was part of the novel "Anandmath" which was strongly anti Muslim. The author Bankim Chandra Chatterjee was heavily influenced by the rural communal and economic divide in what is now Bangladesh. The land owners were mostly Hindus, while the tillers were mostly very poor Muslims. Among these landowners were prominent and most secular families like those of Rabindranath Tagore. Yet the communal polaristion was so deep that the Viceroy Curzon had to partition Bengal in 1905. This was welcomed by the Muslims, but equally strongly opposed by the Hindus. The divide was personified by this very song Vande Mataram.

The British finally cancelled this partition six years later. But the 1947 division in Bengal broadly followed this line.

How can we ignore the cry of saffron forces, particularly Bal Thackeray that if Muslims want to live in India, they must sing Vande Mataram.
the name of Maulana Azad, his great uncle, in defence of Vande Mataram. That could hurt Muslims far more. Maulana Azad is one leading figure that binds Muslims of India to the national mainstream. By connecting him to Vande Mataram , we may damage the Maulana's standing within the community. That would weaken the process of emotional integration Muslims within the national landscape.

Why don't anyone comment RSS don't have respect. And when they  potrate indian citizen as anti national who accepted islam religion frm fedup of cast system.    So let's respect our citizen and who accept religion as way of life as our constitutional fundamental right. Don't make muslim give  certificate by singing vande mataram.
