Re: [IAC#RG] Fwd: OROP

What a pity? Including People in such high dignity,  make loose communications not even understanding what Armed Forces Services is all about & origin and nature of OROP.

May be due to lack of understanding for what the veterans  are fighting for, some one may not agree to the views of the Veterans.
Please understand, they are fighting for dignity and equal treatment.  Some of the Generals standing there day and night, few of them already in receipt of the OROP.... but still standing by their troops, who served the Nation with dignity and  now post retirement also fighting for justice & restoring dignity vis-a-vis other civil services. There was a point in time pre-1973, people from  Royal families used to join Army... but not  the Civil services. Do any one talking ill  understand why they joined? It's absolute poor imagination if they thank that  they joined for Money. They had millions; and the dignity was more important to them.

Before making any further fuss or communication, please go down to those veterans and seek reply for all your innocent looking questions. Any one who is prepared to lay down his life and not look back even  in times of losing proposition in a war, certainly deserves a special status and dignity when  he survives and retires. The Gentleman was talking  about not having a war in last 43 years except small squirmishes like  Kargil should also know why there was no war in last 43 years. Does he mean that the enemies are being very generous with us?  Does he know how many people die of frost bite in the Himalayan ranges when most of the civilians are enjoying evening TV shows (Jhalak Diklaja with friend and family and  hot snacks)? Has he ever analysed how many Army persons die while in training and in peace keeping ?  Yet,.. they crib about couple of pegs of Rum that an army man gets while serving at those hostile places.. that too one can't even buy a drink to keep oneself warm at such ungodly places. Talking of Non-veg? Half the money meant to be given for rations to Army men is eaten away by the Babus &  Politicians in awarding annual supply contracts.. what poor quality of meat gets served in the Lungar, one must see to believe. These guys serve with al the odds and retire early at 35 or 37 and we have cribs. What do these guys do after retirement? You go around your city and talk to security guards keeping watch in front of wealthy people / offices / hotels etc. 90% of them may be ex-army guys. Why should he do strenuous 12 hours guard duty even after retirement? The gentleman was comparing Army to IOC employees.  Let's see how many IOC retired employees are doing security guard duty?

I suppose this  much is  enough to understand for  any one with civic sense.

Dear Shri Sarabjit,

As an Ex.SS commissioned Army officer who has gone through one war and also now retired as a senior executive of an Oil PSU, I felt disgusted at the undignified and unofficerlike agitation carried out by some of the defence verans in Delhi. If OLQ is that differentiates an officer from others, those leaders who were shouting slogans, did not show any  such quality.Even after govt. agreed to all the major points, their greed in contnuing with the agitation is unpardonable..Buoyed by the support from a dotting press and the politician's unwillingness to say anything against the 'patriots',they went over board and made them nothing different from political agitators. It is known to every body that it is only those in non-officer category who retire before the age of 40.They get a tippance of a pension.Instead of asking for jobs in governmental institutions and PSUs for these released soldiers, the agitating leaders were harping on OROP alone.Even now a reired superceded Lt.Col gets a pension of more than Rs.40,000 and a brigadier about Rs 50,000.Ours is a volunteer army and no one has forced them to join the defence services.

They forget that there are others also who contributed to the growth, stability and welfare of this nation. For example Oil PSUs.The work condition in 60s and 70s in oil sector  were worse than that of a peace time soldier and we did not have a war for the last43 years except the battalion strength skirmish in Kargil.Their employees competed with international oil giants in adverse circumstances to bring up national oil copanies like IOC.What did they get in return,a CPF half of which was contributed by they themselves with no pension. The CPF of Rs.10 or 20 Lkahs they got in 80s and 90s are peanuts now. Many of those retired are almost destitutes now.The comnpanies have forgotten them and the nation also.Every one knows that the present government is a nationalist government with every sympathy for soldiers and veterans. But as an elected government they can not abdicate their responsibilty  to the poor of this nation.Government has to balance their economics. To make the government crawl, after they have agreed to accept OROP and most of their demans, with such agitation is the height of irresponsibilty.Pot bellied retired generals jumping and shouting slogans gave a despicable sight espicially when we we are inundated with news of farmer;s suicides every day.

Dear Brig Saha

It seems our veterans lose their ability to detect friend from foe
once they retire if you lot routinely dish out terms like "traitor" to
describe your channel hosts.

FYI, I am not a babu. Neither do I get any pension / salary from the Govt.

What "I" am is the poor fool who pays for all the worthless and
whining rascals hiding behind terms like patriotism and nationalism
for their greedy / selfish ends. I am the person who pays for ketchup
colonels and their fake encounters. I am the person who pays for
Adarsh Housing scams. ...

You people were paid enough for any work you allegedly did while in
service. If you couldn't save while you were in service I fail to see
why we citizens should pay for your existence and your booze once you
retire. (NB: By "you" I mean each and every person who gets a pension
- starting from our worthless MPs)

I am sure that many ordinary citizens would say much the same thing
once we leave the hypocrisy behind.

Best regards
.
Sarbajit
