Touts book tickets faster on IRCTC site using special software

TNN | Mar 17, 2015, 10.57 AM IST

SURAT: The touts involved in the black-marketing of the railway tickets have become tech-savvy. Now, they are using a special software to get maximum number of railway e-tickets from the IRCTC web portal at a click of the button. The common users on the IRCTC website take a long time to book e-tickets, but touts are able to book dozens of tickets with the help of the special software at one go.

This was revealed during a surprise raid conducted by the anti-tout squad of Mumbai in the city's Limbayat area on Saturday evening where a tour and travel operator was nabbed with more than 44 e-tickets booked with the help of the specialized software, which he claimed to have purchased from a software developer in Anand.

Official sources said that the owner of tour and travel agency in Limbayat identified as Pradip Sharma was caught red-handed with 44 e-tickets for 177 passengers worth Rs 1 lakh and Rs 20,000 worth of tickets booked from the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) centre for 19 passengers. He was getting anything between Rs 200 and Rs 1,000 on each ticket sold to the passengers.

"The accused was using a software to book e-tickets on IRCTC website. The software would facilitate the accused to book tickets in a faster possible manner. As the bookings would open up in the morning hours on the website, he would log in and book around 18 tickets at one go. We have seized the computer and investigations are on to trace the whereabouts of the technocrat who designed the software," said an officer of anti-tout squad. S K Yadav, area railway officer (ARO) told TOI, "The railway protection force (RPF), anti-tout squad from Mumbai and the railway department have been keeping a close watch on the touts for the last two weeks."

Ur correct the ticket clerk can do fast booking of tatkal tickets . In Supreme Court, the clerck used to collect at least 10 forms by 9.45 and feed it in his computer he will also collects the amount in advance plus some extra. Since there is cordial relation ship with clerk, lawyer never objects to such collection. by 10.2. or 10.3 he will be able to issue at least first ten confirmed tickets. There is nothing illegal in this , as the staff work very fast by expecting certain incentives.

It is so easy. The reservation forms are given by touts  to the booking clerks concerned, the previous evening itself. When the Tatkal booking begins, the clerk  first books those tickets for the forms submitted the previous evening itself  and then caters to the needs of those waiting in the queue. That is why the first person waiting in the queue will be surprised to see the printer whirring and printing at 10.01 am itself even before the clerk collects the form from the first person waiting in the queue… …. As I always insist another grey area is EQ. If the travel is so urgent and emergency  let the railway personnel find his or her own way of travel. Should they travel only by train….? Another paradox in EQ…. Emergency is instant. You cannot predict today  an emergency for tomorrow…. EQ should be abolished completely and those seats should be released for common people through ordinary booking

Railways should change the Rules to the effect  that for the first 30 Minutes , Tatkal Reservation could be made only from the City/Town/village etc from where it is proposed to travel or to which place it is proposed to travel.Genuine railway users  who are put to the necessity of making an urgent trip will really be the beneficiaries .For this purpose,'Tatkal local timing' can be 9.30 am to 10.00 am. Thereafter Tatkal tickets can be sold from any counter ,from any place and even by travel agents and by users through e-mail.There is no meaning in saying ''down with corruption''. We should suggest ways and means to avoid the same or at least to minimise the same and to facilitate intended benefeciaries to achieve the goal .
